The desire to go to Comic Con this year, here in San Diego, was strong. Two of our favorite television series was going to be there; Breaking Bad and Dexter. Even more urgently, for each of these shows, it is their last season. Sadly were weren’t able to go. What did we do instead? We spent Saturday finding locations from season 2 of Dexter. They mostly shoot their episodes in Long Beach, which from Carlsbad, is only a little over an hour away.
I had never been to Long Beach, but when I hear the name, I think of Newport Beach or Laguna Beach. This is what I had in mind when driving there. It must be told, it is nowhere near the visual I had in mind. Jake informed me that the music groups, Sublime and Snoop Dog originated from this place. Long Beach would have been extremely disappointing if it wasn’t for the excitement of finding these locations seen on Dexter.
The website explains why this house looks a little different from the one in the show.

This was the highlight of the our trip. The Botanic Garden’s land was first used for mining, then it was a sanitary landfill, but you wouldn’t believe it. It’s vast surroundings are tranquil with beautiful, lush vegetation. With a light mist of rain, a couple was getting married. A large banquet dinner was set up and getting prepared for its guests. Because the place was closing we only had a half hour to find the lake. On the map, it looks like a long walk but it wasn’t. The lady who helped us was super friendly and we were able to use our San Diego Botanic Garden membership to get in.
Yesterday for Mother’s Day weekend we went to Newport Beach. Corona Del Mar beach was where we enjoyed the sand, sun, and splashing waves. We had dinner at Café Rio and then visited the LDS temple. This was a spontaneous trip so I didn’t look up the temple pictures before-hand. I was surprised to see that the temple isn’t a gleaming white. It is enchanting and very beautiful! Today we enjoyed church and made the sabbath a relaxing one.
